Counselling

Do you feel burdened by difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours? Are you stuck in unwanted patterns, or feeling down for reasons you can’t quite explain? Maybe you’re struggling with relationships, or life in general feels overwhelming. Talking with a warm, trusted person in a confidential, safe space can help.

Therapy

Is it difficult for you to explain how you’re feeling, or to find the right words? Traditional talking therapies can feel daunting when self-expression doesn’t come easily.

Creative therapy takes a different path, using art and imagination to help you communicate and process your emotions in a way that feels natural and less pressured.

Interacting with animals has many health benefits. My gentle, quiet companion dog Walter can sometimes join therapy sessions to help reduce stress and anxiety.

Welcome to Ilex Wellbeing

Life can feel like juggling a thousand things at once - family, career, relationships, and the pressure to meet everyone else’s needs, often leaving little time or energy for yourself.

On top of that, there’s the ever-changing landscape of hormones: the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy, the realities of parenthood, and the transition of menopause. It’s no wonder so many women feel overwhelmed or disconnected from their own wellbeing.

My practice is grounded in the belief that lasting change happens when we care for both mind and body. I offer a holistic approach that blends person-centred, integrative counselling, coaching and restorative body therapies, creating a supportive space where you can put yourself first.

With methods like mindfulness, breath-work, and somatic practices, I help you release tension, manage stress and anxiety, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that often get lost in the day-to-day shuffle.

Whether you’re struggling with the weight of expectations, navigating major life changes, or simply longing to feel more balanced and in control, I’m here to support you.

From late-2026, I’m excited to be offering restorative Swedish massage and specialist pregnancy and menopause massage - providing more ways to nurture your physical and psychological wellbeing.

Amelia Menzies

I've spent many years working in mental health, supporting people in various roles across both the third sector and the NHS. Most recently, I’ve been helping parents navigate pregnancy and early parenthood through perinatal mental health charity Nurture the Borders, and I also work in the maternity unit at BGH.

I hold a BACP-approved Diploma in Counselling and am currently studying a BSc Hons in Psychology with Counselling, as well as a diploma in Swedish Massage and Physiology, with the Complementary Therapy School.

I’m especially passionate about women’s health and the mind-body connection, helping people navigate life’s challenges in ways that are grounded, practical, and evidence-based.

I keep my practice current through regular clinical supervision, ongoing training, and professional development. As a registered member of the BACP, I follow their code of ethics to ensure safe and professional support.

When I'm not working, you’ll find me running after my feral kids or spending time in the countryside with my dachshunds, secretly dreaming of one day having an animal rescue centre.

"Amelia has been compassionate towards me since our first meeting and ever since. She is always encouraging me, supporting me to see my strengths and has been a fundamental part of my journey to better mental wellbeing"
"(during my pregnancy) I felt so anxious as I did not know if my baby was going to be okay... Amelia made me feel incredibly seen, heard and valued"
"it gives me something to look forward to each time. It's a space for me, where I can just be myself, connect with someone who understands and feel genuinely supported through the ups and downs of parenthood"
